On February 15th 2023, Codecademy released new features for 6 career paths. Along with the feature launch comes a change to the appearance and functionality of the syllabi for the following career paths:
- Full-Stack Engineer
- Front-End Engineer
- Back-End Engineer
- Data Scientist: Machine Learning
- Data Scientist: Analytics
- Computer Science
You may opt into the syllabus redesign by clicking “Update syllabus” from inside your path syllabus page.
Aside from looking slightly different, the syllabus page update is designed to make it easier to access the new features and more clearly demonstrate how you are progressing through the coursework.
Career path syllabus updates FAQ:
Will my progress be saved when I switch to the updated experience?
Yes, your progress will be saved when you switch. However, because we have made changes to the structure of the content and the structure of exams, you may see different exam completion scores in the new experience. Here’s why:
- Exams have been condensed
- Our new certification exam experience has been designed to be broader in scope than before, which means there are additional unit exams you are required to pass to earn a professional certification.
Here’s an example:
Figure A: An exam in the old version of the Front-End Engineer Career Path in the unit of “Javascript Syntax, Part I.” The score is 31/43 (72%).
In this example, a score of 72% (31/43 questions passed) is achieved for the exam called “Javascript Syntax Part 1” in the old version of the Front-End Engineer Career Path.
Figure B: An exam in the new Front-End Engineer Career Journey in the section of “Building Interactive Websites (part 1).” The score is 3/25 (12%).
In Figure B, credit is automatically issued for the unit “JavaScript Syntax, Part I” in the new Front-End Engineer Career Journey. However, since there are now only 4 questions, the score is 75% (3/4 questions passed).
The system is unable to give you the exact 72% you received on the old version of the exam, as there are only 4 questions now, so it rounds up to 75%.
Additional unit exams have been added, including “JavaScript Syntax, Part II,” “Building Interactive Websites,” “Make A Website Accessible,” and “Git and GitHub, Part I.” This is the reason why the total score for the certification exam is 12% (3/25 questions passed).
If I update to the new experience, can I switch back to the old version?
Once you move to the new experience, you will not be able to go back to the old version.
